Title: The Giver                                                                                                                     Author: Lois Lowry                                        Alivia Lohmeier
Genre: Speculative Fiction

Jonas is about to turn twelve in his Utopian community.  When you turn twelve, it means you get your Assignment.  Jonas was selected to be the new Receiver of Memory, so he can see and feel things that other people can’t.  Now that he has this job, he realizes that the community isn’t as perfect as it seems, so Jonas and the Giver, his trainer, must make a plan to help the community.

I think the theme of The Giver might be about what it would take to live in a perfect world, and about what really does make us human.  I agree with the author in saying that to live in a perfect world, I don’t think I would want to give up the things that make me human.

I liked the book, but some things would be too unbelievable to be real, like the fact that they have no feelings or that they can’t see colors . I would give the book four stars and recommend it to anyone who is interested in a good story.
